What is STAIRs?

STAIRs stands for Social Tenants Access to Information Requirement scheme. It is a new standard introduced by the UK Government to enhance transparency for tenants of registered providers of social housing, including housing co-operatives.

STAIRs is effective from 1 October 2026, and our housing co-operative members are working to ensure their publication schemes are fully in place by this date. We will continue to update this page as our processes develop.

To make things easier, we’ll be putting everything in one place on this web page.  This dedicated page will contain a copy of the Co-operative’s publication scheme document and any other useful information.

What is a STAIRs Publication Scheme

Housing Co-operatives must publish publication schemes, to advise tenants how and where they can find information about, housing services, property maintenance, spending, decision making, and performance.

Much of the information that our housing co-operative members are required to publish under STAIRs is already available.  For ease, they will use the STAIRs classifications, set out by the Government to provide examples.

STAIRs information requests 

From 1 April 2027,  our housing co-operative members will publish a STAIRs Policy advising you how to request specific information relating to areas set out within the classes of information required.
